Dr. Atul Narayan joined IIT Madras as an Assistant Professor in 2014 in the Transportation Engineering Division of the Civil Engineering Department. His research interests include mechanical characterization of infrastructural materials like bitumen, bituminous mixtures, granular materials, cement paste/mortar, etc. His work mainly involves experimental characterization of materials and development of constitutive equations to describe the mechanical behaviour of materials. In addition, he is also interested in the evaluation of the performance of bituminous mixtures and the prediction of the resistance to permanent deformation and fatigue cracking of binders and mixtures.
