Dr. Ramesh Kannan K Is an assistant professor of the Geotechnical Engineering division at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras. Before joining this institute, he worked as a post-doctoral research associate with the Geotechnical Research Group at the Schofield centre, University of Cambridge (UoC). His research at Cambridge involved a fundamental understanding of the mechanics of hydraulic fracturing in soft rocks and wellbore strengthening. This research project was funded by British Petroleum - International Centre for Advanced Materials (BP-ICAM). He completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), where he worked extensively on understanding the mechanics of cohesive-frictional granular materials through comprehensive characterization and material modeling. Ramesh’s work focuses on a fundamental understanding of the mechanics of frictional and transitional geomaterials from particulate to continuum level, which will eventually lead to better engineer intricate geo-systems. Currently, he is involved in setting up a state-of-art research facility to tackle some fascinating geo-mechanics problems in the research areas given below. He is always looking for self-motivated and dedicated learners having a good background in geo-mechanics. If you are interested in his research areas, please feel free to contact him.
