Computational Geomechanics on Next-Generation Computing Platforms

Abstract:Computational simulations of coupled reservoir processes are crucial for designing safe and efficient operations in a number of subsurface applications: oil and gas production, geologic carbon storage, geothermal energy, and others. This talk will describe recent progress attempting to push the scale and resolution at which we can run such models. The focus of this work is on efficient discretizations, scalable solver algorithms, and advanced programming models that can take advantage of current HPC platforms. We will conclude the talk with a discussion of remaining bottlenecks and pathways for future research.
