Piyush Chaunsali is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai (India). Before joining IIT Madras in 2018, he was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA). He received his B. Tech. (2007) in Civil Engineering from NIT Warangal, M.S. (2010) in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University (USA), and Ph.D. (2015) in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA). At the University of Illinois, he was a recipient of Ravindar K. and Kavita Kinra Fellowship, and Chester P. Siess research award. He is an active member of American Concrete Institute, Indian Concrete Institute, and RILEM. He currently serves as Section Editor (Cementitious) of ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering and as Associate Editor of Advances in Cement Research. He received Outstanding Young Concrete Engineer award from Indian Concrete Institute – Chennai Centre in 2022. He is broadly interested in processing-microstructure-property relationships of alternative cementitious binders.
