Geotechnical Engineering – About

The Geotechnical engineering division in the Civil engineering department was established in the early 1960’s. Since then, the division has been offering post-graduation programmes and carrying out advanced research & consultancy projects in various areas of Geotechnical Engineering. Major areas of research in the Geotechnical engineering includes physico-chemical behaviour of soils, strength anddeformation behaviour of soils, soil dynamics & earthquake engineering and machine foundations, soil stabilisation, stone/sand columns, reinforced earth, geosynthetics, environmental geotechnique and waste disposal, unsaturated soil mechanics, rock mechanics, Numerical methods in geotechnical engineering.
