Brief CV

Dr. S. Mohan is currently the Institute Chair Professor in the Environmental and Water Resources Engineering Division of the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai. He obtained his M.Engg., in Water Engineering (1983) and PhD in water and environmental engineering (1987), and became a faculty member of IITM in 1987. As of 2019 August, he has published over 200 articles and technical reports on several topics of environmental and water resources engineering and science, including water and wastewater treatment technologies, environmental nanotechnology, environmental impact assessment, water and air quality modeling, contaminant transport in surface and subsurface water systems, Sustainability engineering, Reservoir Operation, water resources optimization, waste-to-energy, waste-to-materials and Solid-waste management. The H-index and the citation index are 19 and 1500 as of May 2020. He is recipient of several publication awards or recognitions including Penny Cuick Award, Institution of Engineers Award, Indian Water Works Association Award etc. He is currently the Chairman, State Expert Appraisal Committee, Tamil Nadu State and serving as an Independent Director of Tamilnadu Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd. He is a research cluster leader in the area of Environmental and Water Resources Engineering and provide a contiguous value chain of research, translation, development and application of environmental and water technologies. He also provides advisory services to the public institutions, professional organizations, environmental and water industry, and non-governmental organizations with the mission of improving the living conditions of Asia’s developing communities. He has also carried out around 25 International and National Sponsored Research Projecting accounting to a sum of 4,76,38,946‬ INR and 126 National projects accounting to a sum of 10, 33, 46, 650 INR respectively.
